CAST

STAFF SERGEANT JOHN CONSTABLE (JACKSON DAVIES)
Finally promoted to the position of Staff Sergeant after decades of serving as Constable Constable, John Constable has reached a cross-road. He has spent over 30 years with the RCMP, most of it in the small town of Gibsons Landing. He has been the lynch-pin of the community for more years than most can remember, but the place has changed. With developers covertly snapping up every available inch of his beloved sleepy waterfront village, Molly’s Reach facing a wrecking ball, his old friends gone, an ambitious by-the-book female rookie cop at his heels and his fiftieth birthday looming – John Constable is feeling the pressure. He is hungry for more – but more what is the question. (...full bio )

DAVE MCGONIGAL (DAVE THOMAS)
Dave McGonigal has spent his life just one step ahead of the debt collectors. A charming, irrepressible hustler, huckster and ne’er-do-well, he has won and lost fortunes and friends. Even his long-suffering daughter Donna is getting tired of picking up the pieces after him. He returns with her to the West Coast to collect on one of the few things he ever won. A half-share of Molly’s Reach was a poker game prize that he actually managed to hold onto – by giving it to Donna as a graduation present. She wants to cash it in and get on with her life but once back in Gibsons, the ever-devious Dave sniffs OPPORTUNITY and finds that his one talent – as a chef – might just make him a local hero and centre him into a community that feels a little like home. (...full bio)

SCOTT RIVERS (CAM BANCROFT)
Scott Rivers rides into Gibsons Landing with little more than the weathered leather jacket on his back, a battered motorcycle and the air of having seen it all. He has spent the last ten years running – away from Gibsons, old memories and his father’s ill-concealed disappointment in him. As the child of divorced parents he spent his summers on the B.C. coast and some of his happiest times were spent with Donna McGonigal. Their sweet friendship and budding romance was marred by the constant irritant of Katt Reynard, an on-again, off-again playmate who delighted in making mischief and coming between them. Scott has returned home finally -- to fulfill a promise made to Nick Adonidas during his travels in Greece – and to come to terms with his aimless existence. (...full bio )

DONNA MCGONIGAL (DEANNA MILLIGAN)
Donna McGonigal is bright, beautiful and the possessor of a brand new MBA and a promising future in the Big City. Coming back to Gibsons, for her, is nothing more than cementing a business deal and wrapping up loose threads before moving on to a new life. Donna has always been sensible – she had to be. With a father like Dave McGonigal she grew up early – almost constantly on the run from debt collectors with the never ending worry about where the next meal would come from, or the next Summons. The one bright spot in her teens was her friendship with Scott, but when that went sour she withdrew into herself and into the world of the pragmatic, the practical and the unsentimental. However, the magic of Gibsons was always tinted by sentimentality. Memories, the disturbing presence of her old love, plus the sheer natural beauty of the place, start to put a dent into her shell. (...full bio )

KATT REYNARD (KENDALL CROSS)
Katt is tough – she always has been. She grew up in Gibsons, on the wrong side of the Wharf, and didn’t come in for much in the way of cosseting or loving care. Beautiful, canny, manipulative and highly intelligent, she knows what she wants and she takes it – any way she can. Making money comes easily to her but details of how she does it and who she partners with are kept firmly under wraps. A brand new jeep and her own seaplane hint at just how far she has come from her wharf rat beginnings but few in the Community even begin to suspect how far she plans on going. The only thing that may get in her way is the unexpected resurfacing of ghosts from her childhood. Donna’s return rekindles the unspoken competition that always existed between the women, and the sexual attraction between her and the still-handsome Scott Rivers simmers, just below the surface. (...full bio)

COLIN REID (GRAHAM GREENE)
Outspoken activist, eco-warrior, and publisher Colin Reid sees everything that goes on in the Community – and has fingers in more pies than most of the sleepy townsfolk are aware of. Born and raised in Gibsons, he’s a quiet mover and manipulator, with a wicked sense of humour, who takes everything in his easy-going stride. From his constant arrests for anti-logging activities to the not-so-casual sharing of information about just who would benefit from the demise of Molly’s Reach, Colin Reid directs events, without lifting a finger. (...full bio)

DR. ANN SHIRLEY CONSTABLE (SUSAN HOGAN)
Dr. Ann Shirley Constable still loves her husband very much. However, with a thriving medical practice, a beautiful home on the water, a place at the heart of the Community and a fulfilling life, she is not willing to uproot herself and their teenage daughter because John is having a mid-life crisis. Early retirement for “Constable Constable” is one thing – and if that would make him happy and give him the freedom to “find himself” – she’s prepared to support him to the hilt. Leaving Gibsons, however, is out of the question. (...full bio )

CONSTABLE KELLY MAH (FRANCOISE YIP)

New to Gibsons and new to policing, Constable Kelly Mah stands out a mile in the small community. It’s not just that she is Asian, and stunning, even in a bulky RCMP uniform, it is also that she is young, ambitious and likes to run things by the rule book. It’s a sharp contrast to Staff Sergeant John Constable’s turn-a-blind eye philosophy. Her zeal puts up people’s backs and keeps her boss busy trying to smooth the waters and ease his new subordinate into his easygoing brand of community policing. (...full bio )

Duncan FraserGEORGE RIVERS (DUNCAN FRASER)
George Rivers never did have much time for his only son on the obligatory summers the boy spent with him in Gibsons. He was much more interested in playing golf than in getting to know his boy. By the time Scott speeds back into Gibsons George, the town’s wily lawyer, has become wrapped up in a whole other sport – working for Katt Reynard and using his full skills to help her covertly take over the town. Seeing Scott again is an unpleasant jolt, until he starts to come to terms with the fact that his son may not be the disappointment he has always viewed him as. (...full bio )

SMITTY (MATT WALKER)
Smitty regards the world with an expansive and tolerant eye. Intelligent, irreverent and blessed with a belly laugh that shakes the trees, it amuses him to rescue Scott, a total stranger who’s stranded on the cliff edge. He is, moreover, a man who can turn his hand to just about anything, and a genius with anything mechanical – so it further tickles his sense of the ridiculous by helping Scott to refloat The Persephone, and see just how far this young man can go. (...full bio)

SPECIAL MUSIC GUESTS

JJ’S JUGBAND - VALDY

ValdyWhen Valdy first learned about The New Beachcombers he immediately picked up the phone. As he explains, "The Beachcombers has always been such an accessible show. It's all about community and I wanted to be a part of that community, to help develop a musical character. What a great stretch for me, acting, tune-smithing, arranging."

Valdy, born Valdemar Horsdal in Ottawa, Canada has been part of the fabric of Canadian pop and folk music for over 30 years. A man with a thousand friends, from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island to Texas to New Zealand, he's a singer, guitarist and songwriter who catches the small but telling moments that make up life.

Remembered for Play Me a Rock and Roll Song, his bitter-sweet memory of finding himself, a relaxed and amiable story-teller, facing a rambunctious audience at the Aldergrove Rock Festival circa 1968, Valdy has sold almost half a million copies of his 13 albums, has two Juno Awards (Folk Singer of the Year and Folk Entertainer of the Year), a total of seven Juno nominations and four Gold albums to his credit.

Valdy’s recent CD, Contenders, is a collaboration with friend and fellow Singer/ songwriter, Gary Fjellgaard, with whom he has an absolute blast touring. His forthcoming solo release Viva Valdy will be a two-CD – one live, one studio – set.

One of Canada’s most influential songwriters, Valdy’s composition A Good Song was recorded under the title Just a Man by the venerable Quincy Jones who sings lead on the recording. Play Me a Rock and Roll Song was also recorded by John Kay of Steppenwolf.

Along the way, Valdy has taken his music to a dozen different countries, from Denmark to Australia and has been an often-invited performer at the prestigious Kerrville Festival in Texas. His recent television appearances include Canada AM and Open Mike with Mike Bullard. Valdy has also been a panelist on Front Page Challenge and played a lead role in an episode of The Beachcombers original series.

Today, he is based on Salt Spring Island, where he lives with his wife Kathleen, three dogs and two large cats (the three grown-up "kids" are all now living in the southern mainland of British Columbia).

JJ’S JUGBAND - LONG JOHN BALDRY
LONG JOHN BALDRY There are times when the "legend" of Long John Baldry obscures the fact of his music. Baldy is legendary as the man who helped turn Reg Dwight into Elton John; the man who found Rod Stewart at midnight on a railway station platform ("playing harmonica under a pile of football scarves"); and the man who sang with the first British rhythm and blues bands, with Charlie Watts on drums and a callow youth called Mick Jagger singing occasional vocals.

One of the fathers of the British rock scene, virtually every musician who came up in England during the ‘60s has some connection to Baldry, names like Ginger Baker, Jeff Beck, Brian Jones, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, and The Rolling Stones. In fact Eric Clapton has stated many times that he was inspired to pick up a guitar after seeing Baldry perform in the early sixties. Baldry built his career in Britain to a level that made him a household name, with hit records, a collection of white suits, and a non-stop schedule of radio performances, television shows, concerts, dates in huge clubs, and even a Royal Command performance or two.

Since 1964 Long John has released seventeen albums which have explored a vast variety of musical styles running the gamut from Pop to Blues to Folk to Rock and he now makes his home in Vancouver, British Columbia.
